What are Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the field of dentistry that involves straightening and perfecting a patient’s smile. We offer a variety of different orthodontic treatment options that will fit your needs perfectly. Whether you come in for traditional metal braces or clear aligners, this treatment can help to straighten crooked and crowded teeth in a short period of time. What’s more, orthodontic treatment is ideal for patients of all ages.
Why are Orthodontics needed?
The reason you may consider orthodontic treatment is because your teeth are crooked, crowded, unevenly spaced or you may even have an over or underbite. Orthodontic treatment is just as beneficial for both pediatric patients as well as it is for adults. In fact, it is not uncommon for adults who have already undergone orthodontic treatment to need future treatment because they did not maintain their results when they were younger. In this case, you may consider coming into the office to have this type of work done so that it is personalized specifically to your smile needs.
Who’s a candidate for Orthodontics?
Virtually every patient who is unhappy with their smile and feels that they could benefit from orthodontic treatment is a good candidate for this particular procedure. We begin all of our orthodontic patients off with a consultation that allows us to get to know you and develop a treatment plan that is specific to your needs. Once we accomplish this, it is just a matter of having you come into the office regularly so that we can continue treatment throughout the course of the year. For some patients, treatment can take as little as six months to a year while others may be in their braces for two to three years.
What happens during Orthodontic treatment?
You will start by coming into our office for a complete consultation with our doctor. The consultation often involves exams and dental x-rays that will allow us to see the best way to go about straightening your smile. We then fit you with the braces that are right for you. It is important that you come into the office routinely so that we can make adjustments as needed. To maintain your results, it is a good idea to wear a retainer each night.
