Who is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Whether you’re missing just one tooth or you have very few teeth, implants can change your smile and give you back what you’re missing. They don’t rely on any surrounding teeth being damaged or compromised in order to replace the missing tooth. Likewise, implants are durable and can last for decades without showing any signs of disrepair. You will find that implants are a solid option for replacing teeth in the mouth.
Learning All About Implants
The vast majority of implants are made out of titanium and are solidly placed in the bone of the jaw. These implants will undergo a process known as osseointegration, which means that they’ll fuse naturally with the bone in about six months. The time it takes for the implants to fuse with the bone depends on each individual patient’s anatomy and the time they take to heal from surgical procedures. Once healed, you can have a bridge, denture or crown made for the new implants that have been placed.
Who’s a Viable Candidate for Implants?
Because implants need enough solid bone to fuse with the body, you need to be free of any bone loss issues before undergoing surgery. If you do have bone loss in and around the jaw, we’ll suggest a bone grafting so that we can buildup the area before the implant’s post is placed. The process is quick, simple and takes a short time to heal. Once the bone grafting has healed, you’ll need to have the implant procedure done separately in order for it to heal correctly.
What Can You Expect with the Implant Procedure?
We will begin by administering either a local or general anesthetic as needed. We then create a small cut through the gums and insert the titanium implant post into the bone. It will be given a few months to fuse with the body. After this occurs, you’ll come back in to finish up the procedure and for us to make a restoration for the healed implant. The procedure is quick, simple and provides you with a beautiful new smile that you can feel confident to show off to others. Implants have become the go-to option for patients wanting to transform their whole look and their smile.
